SBCO Enrichment Grant Guidelines, Evaluation Criteria and Funding Cycle

Before completing an application, we strongly encourage applicants to read the following to understand what organizations are eligible for funding, how we evaluate requests, and when to apply.

Guidelines and Eligibility

  1. Enrichment Program funds are awarded to public school districts and nonprofit community organizations within SBCO’s service area. This includes the communities of Catalina, Oracle, San Manuel, Mammoth, Winkelman, Kearny, Superior, Miami, and Globe, and the San Carlos and Fort Thomas Apache Reservations.
  2. The purpose of the grant must benefit children ages 5-18 who reside in our service area. Examples include:
    • Summer reading programs at public libraries.
    • Family events held at public schools.
    • Sports teams, provided they are 501(c) (3) organizations.
    • Field trips to enhance classroom learning.
  3. The following requests will not be considered:
    • Grants to individuals.
    • Grants to churches, private schools or fraternal organizations.
    • Funding for regular operating expenses such as staffing, transportation, and facility costs.
  4. All applications are to be submitted online, including any attachments.
  5. If the project has been previously funded, an Enrichment Program Evaluation must be completed and attached to the new funding application.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. The SBCO Enrichment Grant form should be complete, concise and clearly written.
  2. The purpose of the project/program must align with the SBCO Mission – “Providing opportunities for kids to succeed.”
  3. Priority will be given to projects that offer access to enrichment activities that participants otherwise would not have.
  4. Measurable outcomes must be clearly stated, including the method for assessing each outcome.
  5. A project budget, including other sources of funding for the project, must be provided.
  6. SBCO attempts to distribute grant funding across our service area to reach as many communities as possible. This means that not all qualifying requests will always be funded.

Grant Cycle

SBCO has three funding cycles. Applications are due no later than the following dates:

  • October 1 for project funding in January – May
  • April 1 for project funding in June – August
  • July 1 for project funding in September – December
