Post-high school education is considered one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty.
College graduates and those with career training enjoy significantly higher employment and income than those with less education. A degree can lift an individual student from poverty and can change the outcome for their heirs as well. Unfortunately, financial barriers keep many talented students from pursuing their dreams.
Since 2001 SBCO has awarded scholarships to deserving students in the rural communities stretching from Catalina to Globe to the Fort Thomas and San Carlos Apache Reservations. All 10 public school districts served by SBCO are Title 1 Schools, meaning that at least 40% of the students come from low-income families. In some schools, that figure is as high as 90%. By providing multi-year scholarships and advisory mentorships, SBCO is helping to open doors that will yield long-term benefits for our youth, their families and communities.

Volunteer for the SBCO Scholarship Committee
If you have a passion for education and helping students succeed, consider joining our SBCO Scholarship Committee. Members assist with selecting scholarship recipients and acting as Student Liaisons, mentoring them throughout their college experience. Support the Scholarship Endowment Fund
Leave a lasting legacy of learning for generations of students with a gift to the SBCO Scholarship Endowment Fund. Launched in 2019, this fund was established with the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona to ensure that college scholarships would be available in perpetuity for deserving high-school graduates in the communities we serve.
