Larry Hughes has been a member of the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra for over 20 years. He also performs as principal clarinet for Santa Barbara Grand Opera. An active free-lance musician throughout Southern California, Larry has played with many orchestras including the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, New West Symphony, Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, and Los Angeles Opera. Every summer he can be heard playing principal clarinet with the Laguna Beach "Pageant of the Masters" Orchestra and the Long Beach Municipal Band. Larry has also performed in numerous Broadway musicals including Sunset Boulevard, Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime, Miss Siagon, Candide, Wicked, Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, and most recently, Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. He can be heard as guest soloist on Nick Ariondo's CD "Trilucence".
For over 20 years Larry has been on the faculties of Occidental College and Pasadena City College teaching clarinet and saxophone.
Larry received his Master of Music degree from New England Conservatory of Music as a student of Harold Wright, and his Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, Northridge, as a student of Roy D'Antonio.
